Kampung Life in BALI

"why is your skin so white?"
"you tell me you married. will you do it again?" ...felix stand einige meter hinter dem schueler
"why do you like cat? we have many dog here. dog very nice!"
COLLEGE FUER TOURISMUS - ABENDSCHULE

ENGLISH:
we are back in BALI! :) hiding in a small village not too far away from UBUD CENTRE. when we first arrived we were greeted by roosters, cats, dogs, etc. and a few hours later by an earthquake. it is astonishing how quickly we can run, if we have to... not nice! the only positive thing about it was that due to the earthquake we immediately got to know our host family quite well. dad is a teacher and dances balinese dances, mom and the boys are awesome in the kitchen (spicy at times) and their balinese garden is simply gorgeous.

a few weeks have passed already and we went to several outings outside our small village.

here are the stories to the photos:
we love getting lost in the rice fields just a short walk away from our accommodation. the people working the fields are extremely friendly and happy to see us whenever we stop by.

sometimes we hop onto a rented scooter and drive to various markets and temples. in the pictures you can see PURA TIRTA EMPUL (=water temple) and GOA GAJAH (=elephant cave).

after a few days i could not sit still anymore and followed our host daddy to his workplace at a college for tourism. they teach one and a half hours of english very evening - lucky me! the school is nicely hidden and surrounded by thick vegetation. apparently no tourist came across the school before and so we quickly had all eyes on us ...and there were quite a lot of eyes checking out my parking skills. :) :)
together with dika, the english teacher of the school, we tried to increase their confidence when speaking in front of other people. i had to answer the funniest questions. a small insight for you:
"why is your skin so white?"
"you tell me you married. will you do it again?" ...felix stood a few metres behind the student
"why do you like cat? we have many dog here. dog very nice!"

just before 9pm we would be on our way back home passing by temples and rice fields. sounds romantic and nice, hm? ...in reality the darkness of the night is not our friend. two snakes nearly came riding on the scooter with us - two proper snakes :( :( still somewhat shocked i am only driving with a good distance to the roadside at night.

i also wanted to see a regular school closer to our village. after meeting the principle (and a photo session with him :) ) i ended up in grade 7 and 9. the communication with the teachers was not all that easy. a short introduction in bahasa and they disappeared...
very exciting.. from one second to the other i was responsible for a big group of kids and without any knowledge about their english skills, etc. i am learning a lot at the moment and i have never been more flexible while teaching. with all that felix slowly turns into a teacher too. :) from time to time he contributes to the lessons and cracks up the kids when they realize that he actually speaks bahasa and comes from INDONESIA. the same happens outside the classroom :) great experience!

currently: out of the village and into the busy streets of UBUD CENTRE to meet some more baumgaertels. :) with the perfect timing we managed to meet up for dinner at a quiet backstreet in UBUD.

due to the earthquakes we have changed our travel plans multiple times and we finally came to a conclusion: sadly we will not visit our beloved LOMBOK for now :( :( but instead leave for SULAWESI on September 13th.
