Bunaken for a week
ENGLISH:
the islands called us again :) and so we left for the BUNAKEN …only a short hop away from MANADO. when we approach the island we couldn’t look at much else but the massive church right behind the beach. it was our ‘first’ to see a beach-church on a tropical island …maybe i even starred for little bit :) :) haha!
we shuttled between hammock and putting our head-under-water. the reef right in front of our accommodation was incredible! again and again a big turtle appeared and showed us how easy it was to beat the current …we on the other hand had to paddle quite a bit to stay somewhat close to the coast.
on one day i marched through the village by myself (no chance to get felix out of the hammock :) ) and met extremely friendly people + a little piglet. :) i came across a small school and (of course!) had to put my sneaky nose into an open door. a teacher spotted me and took me inside immediately. we tried to share some personal information with each other and when i told her that i am a teacher just like her, she insisted on me walking into every classroom. – easily done as they only had five classes.
the children (curious just like me) jumped up and came to me in no time. i was greeted with the famous “hello mr.!” and the brave ones tried to put an english question together. the children then burst out laughing due to my (apparently very funny) indonesian answers. :) :) they also showed me their funniest superman-poses. very popular in INDONESIA!
a little background story to the family pic: it’s a super-super sweet family (men not at home) in front of their house at the beach. the sunshine of the family is the 13 year old franziska who unfortunately doesn’t go to school and has to be cared for by her mom all day. if i got it right (they didn’t speak a word of english) there were complications during her birth which in the end led to her condition. franziska has a hard time controlling her movements and she can’t walk nor speak.
