Scooting through AMBON

ENGLISH:
being back in AMBON felt like a deja vu …same airport, same accommodation, same breakfast :) this time we wanted to use our time to actually see something of the island.
quick reminder: fever and co. wouldn’t allow us to visit anything during our last visit

our host organized a scooter for us and as soon as he handed over the key we were up and about… unfortunately, our first stop was an eye clinic in PASSO. at that time felix had been struggling with an eye infection for two weeks and it seemed to get worse by the minute. a long wait and many-many curious looks… AMBON hardly sees any tourists, especially not in an eye clinic.
the admission didn’t take all that long and was quite interesting (for me :) ). one of the first questions was about felix’s religious affiliation and he had to tell them his catholic name …haha! sorry, i am not allowed to share his special name with the world :) :)
eventually, felix got examined and a small operation was suggested by the doctor. but first, we were sent away for a while as too many people were waiting to see the doctor.

back on the scooter, we headed into the centre of AMBON to grab a delicious meal.

side note: there is no reason to get nervous when a transporter full of police men shows up… not in AMBON! the police men had such joy watching us on the scooter :) :) rear sight to see a western woman + asian man driving around there!

the traditional market right in the middle of the city turned out to be an absolute highlight. we could have easily spent a day there – enormous!
with a lot of enthusiasm the people showed us all kinds of goods and after looking at some parrot fish for a bit too long we somewhat got stuck with the friendly sellers in the fish section.

at 1 o’clock our time was running out and we had to go back to the eye clinic. felix got called into the doctor’s room immediately. after half an hour, i got an one-eyed pirate back. :)
my pirate insisted on following our previous plan… and so we kept rolling on our scooter through small tropical hills all the way to the beach side in the north. nature was stunning and the people in the villages were extremely friendly …for a short time, we even had a woman accompanying us on her scooter just to make sure that we didn’t get lost.
after driving for more than an hour, we reached LUBANG BUAYA and felix kicked me into the water to see the corals and sharks (so the locals promised with a grin). all alone i swam in the beautiful bay and immediately saw a stone fish (ah!), a giant puffer fish and many-many colourful fish.
nevertheless, i couldn’t enjoy paradise all that long as the sun already started to set and we had a long way back to our accommodation.

sad, that we didn’t plan to have more days in AMBON we dragged ourselves to the airport the very next day …waking up at 5am: painful!!
